I left Paris too soon to celebrate Valentine's Day there -- which is too bad because I didn't get to sample this:
Which I spotted in the window of Ladurée salon de thé as I was walking up the Champs Elysées.
Like the Marx Brothers, I had my one grand, if less eventful, night at the Opera.
But mostly I kept company with my mother and her cats.
And played with my new set of knitting needles
My best Parisian purchase this time around: KnitPro needles, obviously closely related to KnitPicks Options needles. The local yarn shop offered both wool and acrylic versions (no metal needles), and one could buy them either individually or in sets.
This set takes me back to the excitement of back-to-school shopping decades ago: the smell of brand new erasers, the gleam of a bright, untouched set of color pencils. I had no better reason than this one to choose the acrylic needles over the wood ones, and I haven't regretted my choice. The needles are lightweight, just sharp enough for my needs, they haven't come unscrewed once and -- bonus point -- they are the quietest needles I have ever had in my hands.
